Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 2, 2026

1. Who We Are

Scouva (operated by Jorge A., DBA Scouva) is a free price intelligence platform for used consumer electronics. We aggregate public listings from Facebook Marketplace, OfferUp, and eBay, score them against real market data, and help buyers find deals and avoid scams. You can reach us at hello@scouva.com.

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide directly:

  • Email address — collected when you set up a price alert. We use this solely to send you alert notifications and confirmations.

Information collected automatically:

  • IP address and browser/device information — collected anonymously and hashed (one-way encrypted) when you report a suspicious listing. This prevents abuse of our community flagging system. We cannot identify you personally from this data.
  • Usage data — basic analytics such as pages visited and features used, collected to improve the service.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To send you price alert emails you've requested
  • To send transactional confirmations (e.g., "your alert is set")
  • To protect the service from abuse (scam flag fingerprinting)
  • To evaluate and improve Scouva's features and user experience
  • To respond to your support inquiries
  • To identify usage trends and improve the platform

We do not sell your data, share it with third parties for marketing purposes, or use it for advertising targeting.

4. AI Services

Scouva uses OpenAI (GPT-4o-mini) to power deal scoring, product normalization, and scam analysis. When you request a scam analysis on a listing, the listing's public data (title, price, description, location) is sent to OpenAI's API for processing. We do not send your personal information to OpenAI. OpenAI's privacy policy applies to their processing: openai.com/privacy.

5. Email Communications

We send two types of emails:

  • Transactional — alert confirmations and price alert notifications. These are sent only because you explicitly requested them.
  • Support — responses to your inquiries.

You can stop receiving alert emails at any time by deleting your alerts at scouva.com/alerts/manage or by emailing hello@scouva.com.

6. Data Retention

We retain your email address and associated alert data for as long as your alerts are active. When you delete all your alerts, your email is removed from our system within 30 days. Anonymized usage data may be retained indefinitely for analytics purposes.

7. Data Security

We use industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including encrypted database connections and secure email delivery via Resend. No system is 100% secure — if you believe your data has been compromised, contact us immediately at hello@scouva.com.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Request correction or deletion of your data
  • Object to or restrict our processing of your data
  • Data portability

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@scouva.com. We will respond within 30 days.

9. Children's Privacy

Scouva is not directed at users under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. Third-Party Links

Scouva links to listings on Facebook Marketplace, OfferUp, and eBay. These platforms have their own privacy policies which govern their data practices. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top. Continued use of Scouva after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
